Concerning plans for Maas to sing in Birmingham, saying that Peyton's letter never arrived, that he saw [Carl] Rosa the previous Wednesday about the Festival but that Rosa "does not think my concert engagements & Festivals are identical with his interests," adding that "with all due respect to the Birmingham Festival, I wish to remind you that I am not a novice asking for the favorable ear of the Public but (an Artist endorsed by the Public & Press of two thirds of the civilized Globe &) one who can go anywhere and demand it," etc.
